HOW THE ELCSS/S, GAMBELLA AND UGANDA MISSION ORGANIZED HERSELF.
The ELCSS/S organized her individual members into local churches under the following categories Centers, Congregations, Parishes, Deaneries, Dioceses and arch- Dioceses in order to fully implement and advance her Vision, Mission, Objectives and all the confessions of the Evangelical Lutheran church.
ELCSS/S has sixteen (16) Deaneries in which nine deaneries is located in South Sudan, one in Sudan, and one in Uganda Mission, five in Ethiopian Gambela.
We have Central Equatoria Deanery, Western Equatoria Deanery, Easthern Equatoria Deanery, and Upper Nile Deanery, Sudan/Nuba Mountain Deanery, Maiwut Deanery, Jekow Deanery, Pagak Deanery, Nasir Deanery, Akobo Deanery, Longechuk Deanery, Gambella Deanery, Makuey Deanery, Kuergeng Deanery, Malow Deanery and Uganda Mission Deanery.
Currently the ELCSS/S has two Dioceses, one in South Sudan Juba, headed by senior Bishop Rt, Rev. Ezra Bakoyogo Elisama Ngirimo and the second one in Gambella Ethiopia headed by Bishop Rt, Rev. Peter wichieng T. Wetnyangran.
The ELCSS/S works to serve, support and enhance the spiritual works, growth and well-being of all members, congregations, we confess together the word of God and worship as one Ecclesiastical Unit.
CHURCH GOVERNANCE AND ADMINISTRATIVE STRUCTURES
The church is governed and administered under the following organs
- General Convention: is the supreme governing authority of the church, comprised of the house of clergy, house of laity, women’s league, youth league and elders.
- Church Council: is the second supreme governing authority of the church after the general convention, comprised of representatives from every categories of group in the ELCSS/S.
- An Extra ordinary General Convention: is the third supreme governing authority of the church after the church council, can be called at any time to discuss specific issues of emergency concern or matter arises which affected the whole church.
- Pastors General Convention: comprised of the house of clergy of ELCSS/S include the retired clergy and those under church discipline, shall discuss and recommend remedies to all issues relating to church doctrines, worship, ecumenical relationship with other churches and traditions of the ELCSS/S and church regulations.
- Chancellor of the Church: is the diocesan or Arch-Diocese authority of the ELCSS/S which is appointed by bishop or presiding bishop to defend the church before the courts of law and in all legal matters in which the church may involve, advise the church on all legal matters relating to the church work and personnel especially during the various church meetings.
- General Deaneries Convection: is the regional subdivisions of the church, under which congregations, parishes are grouped on a regional territorial basis, these are headed by deans.
- Local congregations and parishes: these are the smallest administrative grouping and spiritual units of the ELCSS/S under which the Lutheran individual members are organized and is headed by a pastor.
